Archimedes, also known as Archimedes of Syracuse, was a Greek inventor, physicist, mathematician, engineer and astronomer. He was one of the most renowned mathematicians and scientists during the classical era. It was estimated that he was born in 287 B.C in the city-state of Syracuse, Sicily, Greece. His father's name was Phidias, and was in the field of astronomy.
